about puppetechnics

Founded by David Thornton a professionally trained actor and puppeteer, Puppetechnics initially made puppet films 20 years ago, but has now evolved into a live performance community group in North Sheffield. Our aim is to grow the reputation and success of what we do by producing great puppetry, attract happy audiences and go on to establish a permanent puppet theatre centre in South Yorkshire.

We are creating an Adult (over 16’s) performance group, and a youth group, to produce live theatre shows. We also give talks, demonstrations and run workshops to encourage local participation and understanding of the artform. We plan to develop impactful meet and greet experiences for the tourism, events and entertainment industries, and producing engaging digital content for companies, NGO’s and event promoters.

LIVE THEATRE: The Puppetechnics summer season show in Perranporth (Cornwall) was built for Heritage Great Britain to extend the length of visitor stay at one of their tourist attractions. “The Secret of Goony Farm” Puppet Show was created to be operated cost effectively by one puppeteer Over 200 performances to almost 10,000 people took place over the summer.

DIGITAL CONTENT: Here’s an excerpt from “The PuppetCatcher” a film we made in 2007 with South Yorkshire Police. Yes, those are real policemen in the film. The 15 minute educational production was made to underline the dangers of revealing your identy and personal details online and was aimed at children aged 9 upwards.
